The sun is still low in the sky, but the horses are already lively and neighing eagerly. As Mickey approaches, one of the horses snorts and paws at the ground, impatient to get started.

Mickey takes each horse out for a warmup lap around the track, checking to ensure that each animal is limber enough for the day’s workout. Around the fourth lap, if one of the horses starts to slow down and stumble a bit. Mickey quickly recognizes the signs of fatigue and takes the horse back to the stables for some rest.

Meanwhile, Stephan leads the rest of the animals through a series of exercises designed to strengthen their muscles and build endurance. The horses jog, run laps around the track, and practice navigating tight turns. As the sun rises higher in the sky, the horses start to tire and Mickey calls an end to the training session.

Back at the stables, Stephan gives each horse a thorough washing/brushing and examines them for any signs of injury. Satisfied that all the animals are in good health, he leads them to their stalls for a well-deserved rest. They’ll need it – tomorrow is another early day of training.

As the day wears on, Mickey and Stephan pore over videos of recent harness races, analyzing their own techniques and those of their competitors.
